Broadcom Inc. is a global technology leader that designs semiconductors and infrastructure software. Headquartered in Palo Alto, California, the company traces its roots to Hewlett-Packard's semiconductor group, founded in 1961, which later became Agilent's chip business and then Avago Technologies. Avago acquired Broadcom Corporation in 2016 and took the Broadcom name. Broadcom's semiconductor portfolio includes Ethernet switches and PHYs, custom ASICs, PCIe switches, storage and RAID controllers, broadband and set-top box SoCs, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, and RF filters. It also supplies optoelectronic components widely used in industrial design, such as optocouplers, optical encoders, LEDs and fiber optic transceivers, many of which carry original Avago or HP part numbers.
